People, Forgive me for not wholeheartedly entering into the current TA/FA debate. I have come to see this as a futile pursuit and largely a waste of time. Let me tell you why. In the past I have been an enthusiastic and outspoken advocate of TA on ShareChat - (perhaps overly so - see http://www.sharechat.co.nz/archives/2001/06/msg00452.shtml for example) My passion was such that I was censured by the moderator for calling someone a fool. I apologised, of course. At one point I was spending more time defending TA than using it! Madness. Time after time I found myself refuting the same allegations and making the same explanations. Boring. Look back through the ShareChat archives and you cannot fail to see the repetitive and predictable nature of the arguments on both sides. The only thing that changes is the stock in question and, occasionally, some of the proponents. Snoopy is a worthy opponent but I tire of the joust. Take a look at the 3 very similar charts below. These stocks have at different times each been the centre of heated TA/FA debate on ShareChat, with both sides using the same arguments and rebuttals in each case. Even the actions and outcomes were the same. Pure fundamentalists failed to sell when the uptrends ended and bought on the way down, without waiting for the downtrends to end. So much for patience. (I trust this does not quality as a Parthian shot!) I am happy to post charts should anyone be interested in them. I have always felt that charts can stand on their own merits and no longer spend much time on their defence. Life is too short.
