Do any Sharechatters watch CNBC (channel 57 on Sky TV)? It is my second most watched cable channel after Sky Sport 1. I find it an invaluable source of information on economics, sharemarkets, bond markets, currencies - just about anything to do with business and finance. Particularly good for those investing in offshore markets such as Asia, Australia, US and Europe. Well, it is disappointing that Sky TV have decided to ditch CNBC from November onwards, replacing it with UKTV (more re-runs of British sitcoms no doubt), a Disney channel (to corrupt kids not already brainwashed by Nickleodeon and Cartoon Network) and... the History Channel. I complained to Sky at sky@skytv.co.nz and received a very polite but unhelpful reply informing me that the level of viewership no longer justified them carrying the CNBC channel. We are continually being encouraged to be more proactive in saving for our retirements and investing in asset classes other than residential property, yet our access to business and financial information is being reduced. OK, Sky have to make a profit, fair enough - but they are putting on new channels which are similar to their existing channels, and taking off one which has no similar channel...dumb move IMO. Overseas business people visiting NZ will be turning on their TV in the hotel room looking for CNBC or Bloomberg and all they will get is Mickey Mouse. Is it a wonder that NZ is regarded by some as an economic backwater?? I would tune in and watch CNBC on my PC - if only I could get broadband without taking a second mortgage out on my house. That's my rant for the day. Chris http://search.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Search - Looking for more? Try the new Yahoo!
