The practice of the Labour government wading in with the tax payers cheque
book every time a large important enterprise is in financial difficulties is
storing up future troubles.
Imagine the following hypothetical situation;
The scene: Air New Zealand boardroom in the near future.
1st director: "Hey I've a great idea, why don't we fly jumbo jets into
Hokitika."
2nd director: "Are you crazy, there is not enough passenger demand to justify
that. We would go broke."
1st director: "That doesn't matter, if we go broke the government will rescue
us. It is a one way bet. We cant lose, it doesn't
matter what sort of crazy
stuff we do."
