[sharechat] Clean, green...what about efficient?

New Zealand claims to be clean and green. Green certainly (colour only) but
there are some ugly polluters around.

If the vision for New Zealand Inc was "the energy efficient capital of the
world" and the govt walked the walk as well as talked the talk then we would
see:

* promotion of research and development of all the renewable energy forms in
working models for the public to see and feel proud of. With the right
incentives overseas investors would be queuing up to come here;
* a program to replace old inefficient appliances with new efficient ones,
paid for by an identifiable saving of new capacity. The old appliances would
have to be destroyed/dismantled/recycled;
* Enforcement of a regulation that every building roof should capture heat
from the sun;
* RMA bypasses/exemptions if it is in "the national interest";
* Every kiwi would be experimenting with ways to capture free energy for use
in their homes;
* Every kiwi would care whether he made a fire that smoked out the valley;
* NZ has the most hostile wind in the world, yet no one is here developing
technolgy to combat it;
* NZ has plenty of wind but only one wind farm of significance;
