SARS is a problem really because it strikes fear in the mind of people. 
It's not that infectious compared with other infectious diseases.

Over 1000 people were killed on the roads in the UK for the three weeks 
that SARS has killed, AFAWK, 300.

OK, so it's largely a third-world problem. Then consider it in terms of 
other third-world mortality figures, like the thousands of children who 
die every week due to malnutrition, tropical diseases, dysentery, etc.

In some ways, then, it has similar effects to terrorism in its effect, 
therefore if any stocks are going to be affected by it they will be 
those who have suffered from the recent hype about terrorism (hotel 
chains, airlines, tourism ... ).

SARS a bio-weapon? Sure, but then so could AIDs, the common cold, TB, 
pneumonia ... (you get the idea).
