Bill, The GMF chart posted in August was of Australian prices :- http://www.sharechat.co.nz/archives/2002/08/msg00140.shtml With NZ/Aus dual-listed stocks, you can plot one or the other, or even both on the same chart. The volume figures would normally be kept quite separate though, and not combined. There was indeed a volume spike in mid July, and this corresponded with the four-year peak that formed then. These are called Price/Volume climaxes. It takes volume to stop a trend, and price movements made on heavy volume are of more significance than those made on light volume. It is interesting to view an update of this chart. Note how good the trendline break Sell signal was. The moving average crossover Sell signal was a bit slower, but still gave an excellent exit point, well ahead of the current weakness.
