Thanks Phaedrus - does look grim when you go back to 1987

Looks pretty good from 1990 though - even though that tentative rising 
trendline (inc Sept 11) looks threatened in the near future

So buying the NZSE40 near the bottom in 1988 your returns in the next 14 
years would essentially been dividends....

.....or would most have bailed out in 1990 and said that's enough?

Doesn't look like a market you spread your investment over many stocks (at 
least 15 they say to properly diversfy) and put them in the bottom drawer
