     If you are interested in the long-term performance of the NZSE40, you 
really have to go right back to its 1987 all-time high. When a trendline is 
plotted from this point, the long-term downtrend is readily apparent, without 
any recent break of the trendline. This long-term trendline was nicely 
confirmed just last month.

 This is a rather grim chart, in that this Index is right back where it was 14 
years ago. The true situation is probably better represented by the NZSE40 
Gross Index, which gives a much more positive view.
