[sharechat] J B Were: My take on Lippy's comments
Yo Marilyn
You can get the best of both worlds: use an (on-line) discount broker for
buys you feel confident with, and sell whenever, as well as keeping in
touch with jbw.
My in-house rules are that if my jbw bloke comes up with a strong
recommendation (which unbeknowst to him confirms my own research), I buy
through him. Also, I sell through him if something that he recommended
does well. (I recently had the horrible experience of selling my long-held
CAH for 6 times the brokerage that I would have paid on-line, but figured
fair's fair!)
If, however, I'm taking a hit because a stock spiralled dogwards, I biff it
on-line and pay $25 instead of $100...
I've told him that I sometimes do this, and it hasn't altered his
friendliness, courtesy, helpfulness etc.
My main reasons for moving out on my own stemmed from never being advised
to sell, and being caught with shares that turned nasty. This, of course,
stemmed from not taking full responsibility for my own dosh, so it was all
a bit of a vicious circle.
The things I learn from this forum made a big difference to my confidence
levels, and I do much better with the trades I work out for myself.
Given the high quality of your posts (I've only been here for a couple of
years), I suspect you could do perfectly well on your own...
Best wishes, Jefley
