I hope you don't mind me replying to your request but the form can be found at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw8ben.pdf and basically makes you a non-resident tax alien. This form has to be sent to your broker. I am surprised they didn't tell you that when you opened your account.

Please can you help here?    I have a modest sum with etrade in USA.   A few weeks ago endeavoured to sell and was told I hadn't got adequate detail to them for a foreight investor.   Phoned and was told I hadnever filled in a W8 something or another.    I asked them to send me this and was told to getit myself from  IRS.   Tried - no success.

Emailed Etrade on appropriate email service and received no answer.   Share gone past sell point by now.   Phoned again and was told still - got to find it myself....

 

Would you by any chance have a spare copy or cd email me one or  ???????????   I would like to be organised by next top  (Ohmygosh when).    If you can't I will try to swap to Datek - am told more user friendly.
