If a race horse that once was a crowd favourite is
lying bleeding on the ground with all four legs
broken, it does not matter that an exceptional jockey
comes along to ride it.

That horse just ain't going to run again.

Eventually, the young and sentimental rider will
realise that the animal is beyond hope and offer his
services elsewhere.

That process takes about two years.
