tel, be wary of vodafone: Vodafone in New Zealand Vodafone Group Plc acquired its New Zealand business in November 1998 (previously known as BellSouth New Zealand). At the time of purchase, BellSouth had 138,000 customers. Vodafone now has more than 1.08 million customers and a network covering 97 per cent of the population. Vodafone provides its GSM (Global System for Mobile) digital communication service on the 900 and 1800 megahertz parts of the radio spectrum. New Zealand's mobile market When Vodafone arrived in New Zealand in 1998, there was little growth in the market and less than a fifth of New Zealanders owned a mobile phone. Vodafone's entry into the market stimulated tremendous growth and now more than half of the population owns a mobile phone. Vodafone is the clear market leader in mobile communications with an eight-fold growth in customer numbers in the past three years. The company is focussed on developing new value-added products and services for its customers, particularly its high value business customers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To remove yourself from this list, please use the form at http://www.sharechat.co.nz/chat/forum/
