WELLINGTON (Dow Jones)--Australia's Optus (A.CWO) is set to pick up a major telecommunications services contract with insurer IAG Ltd., according to a report in the Australian Financial Review newspaper Wednesday. Telecom Corp. (NZT), New Zealand's biggest telephone company, and Optus are the two shortlisted candidates for the contract, analysts and media reports have said. The newspaper said an IAG spokeswoman had confirmed that the insurer is now only negotiating with Optus. However, a contract for the outsourcing work, estimated to be worth A$70 million over three years, is still to be signed, the newspaper said. A Telecom spokesman, Martin Freeth, said the company doesn't comment on rumor or speculation. "I don't think there has been any announcement made yet and while these processes are underway we don't comment on them," he said. Recently, Telecom's Australian unit, TCNZA, secured a three year A$35 million telecommunications services contract with transport and logistics concern Toll Holdings Ltd. TCNZA's biggest success to date has been its five-year A$500 million services contract with Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
