However GPG now has little interest in Inchcape
(see below) dated 21 Jan 02
FT say: "For Sir Ron Brierley, rarely will
failure have brought such sweet reward. In February last year, with Inchcape
shares at 329p, Sir Ron's Guinness Peat Group was rebuffed after calling for the
break-up of the automotive services business. At the time, GPG, with a
shareholding of 16 per cent, claimed the sum of Inchcape's parts could fetch
500p a share. They are currently 609p, on a forward p/e of 8.3, and GPG has used
this strength to reduce its stake to a non-notifiable level.
