[sharechat] Keep the balance sheets simple
Mike - as you say whatever amazon made or didn't the market loved it.
Started reading the report on the result but couldn't get past the
forward looking statements. Loved the cautionary notes that went with
them.
Did you read? All one sentence I think. And that's only a summary -
for the full story go to the full SEC announcement. Thank heavens we
don't see these sort of cautions down here. I think it basically says
a lot of things could go wrong
The excerpt
These forward-looking statements are inherently difficult to predict.
Actual results could differ materially for a variety of reasons,
including, among others, the rate of growth of the economy in general
and of the Internet and online commerce, customer spending patterns,
the amount that Amazon.com invests in new business opportunities and
the timing of those investments, the mix of products sold to
customers, the mix of net sales derived from products as compared
with services, risks of inventory management, the degree to which the
Company enters into, maintains and develops service relationships
with third-party sellers and other strategic transactions,
fluctuations in the value of securities and non-cash payments
Amazon.com receives in connection with such transactions, foreign
currency exchange risks, seasonality, international growth and
expansion, and risks of fulfillment throughput and productivity.
Other risks and uncertainties include, among others, risk of future
losses, significant amount of indebtedness, competition, potential
fluctuations in operating results, management of potential growth,
system interruption, consumer trends, fulfillment center
optimization, inventory, limited operating history, government
regulation and taxation, fraud and Amazon.com Payments, new business
areas, business combinations, and strategic alliances. More
information about factors that potentially could affect Amazon.com's
financial results is included in Amazon.com's filings with the
Securities and Exchange Commission, including its Annual Report on
Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2000, including all
subsequent filings.
Cheers
