You need IE 6 or SP2 of IE 5/5.5 to be moderately safe.

In all cases select tools/options/security and set 'restricted sites'  that
saves you from about half of the baddies.

This nick fellow is a bit of a pain.  I've received 5 copies of the virus
from him so far.
