This
is a good example of how it is possible to make money betting on
the internet. The NSW TAB is frequented by one eyed patriotic
australians
who just want their team to qualify and want to make it more interesting
by having
a bet. This flood of money will push the odds in to what is
clearly too short a price.
Ladbrokes will of priced them more realistically.
The bet to make is uruguay to
win with an australian bookie then have
a saver on the draw and a saver with ladbrokes on the aussies.
Should be possible to make a no lose bet on this one. Anyone
know
any bookmakers in uruguay!!, prob aussie 8/1
These situations occur all the time in international
events, supporters
from the country in question always push the price too short.
When internet betting first started it was possible to make a killing
on
this sort of thing, most have now wised up and there is more
cooperation
between organisations with hedging between firms.
There is the other problem
that winning accounts generally tend to be closed
down within a few months, i had this problem with victor chandler,
some of my
friends from the racing world also had a similar problem.
TABs and these new punter V punter sites dont have
this problem
as they take a percentage cut whoever wins, although the TAB has
been burnt a few times on fixed odds events.
As a history lesson for those who dont know u.k
firms
Ladbrokes have been so good that in the 1980s a betting
system could
be used to make a profit on races with early prices. Any horse
which ladbrokes
offered a shorter price on than all other bookmakers should be
backed
at the bookmakers paying the longest price. This simple
system
worked because lladbrokes were consistantly the best when it came to
laying odds.
Anytime ladbrokes offers a price
significantly different from another
bookmaker its time to take notice, cause 99 times out of 100 it will be
the
other bookie who has slipped up.

With regard to sports betting (slightly of
topic). In the World Cup qualifier Uruguay v Australia, I notice that the
N.S.W. TAB is
offering 3.50 on an Australian win, the NZ TAB is
offering 5.00 for the same bet, whereas Ladbrokes is offering 6.00 for an
Australian win. Hmmmm ????
