[sharechat] Lion calls Australia home?
I was interested in this headline in The Australian this morning re Lion's
offers for Petaluma and Banksia:
"Lion stalks our wines".
Given Lion is domiciled in Aussie now it makes me wonder why they used the
term "our" - and in fact what criteria people use to decide if a company is
an "Australian" or "New Zealand" business. I would have thought it is where
the head office is but there are a number of other measurements - where the
majority of shareholders live, where the most earnings come from, which
country has the biggest share trading volumes etc - which might have a
weighting.
On the other hand maybe the headline is an example of the fallout from the
Air NZ-Ansett saga, whereby any NZ-linked company looking to buy Aussie
businesses will be treated suspiciously for some time to come?
