[sharechat] This is better

Hi team

I was pretty embarrassed by the last faux pas, so have cut and paste it
for you all.

I really think that this is worth reading (Aucklanders anyhow).

Ben and/or Will may choose to ban it and if so then so be it.

I think John Banks will be good for the city and it is not entirely
irrelevant to shares and the market.

Whatever you do Will, please don't ban me!

Cheers

NK

Dear Resident,
Auckland has the potential to be a city second to none. It should be the
pride of New Zealand. It can be the envy of the world.
That is my vision for our city.

However, we have a long way to go. Auckland needs leadership to grasp
the opportunities that are slipping past. Auckland has stumbled from
meeting to meeting, plan to plan, crisis to crisis and is being left in
the wake of more progressive cities.

Our whole infrastructure is in a mess -it has been left unattended for
far too long. We should be able to take the efficiency of all basic
services for granted.

We have green open spaces that are without equal. We must protect these
special places and, indeed, add to them. Our environment is a precious
heritage that we must always treasure.

I have the energy, the experience and the management skills that, with
your support, will be a catalyst for change.

As Mayor of Auckland I will bring a sense of urgency and a determination
to get things done. I make that commitment.

Our city needs a leader with the business experience necessary to
promote Auckland as an attractive investment location. Our future
prosperity depends on providing the environment in which innovative
companies can invest and thrive in knowledge-rich industries. I support
the concept of "Innovation Harbour," this is a good starting point. We
have got to see it through.

I want to see Auckland celebrate success not just in the America's Cup
but in business, the arts, sport, tourism and social cohesion.
The present council is not providing a business-friendly climate for
investment, growth and jobs. It needs more focus.

I'm not interested in empire building or finding new ways to meddle in
people's lives. I stand for a restricted and more accountable role for
local government. I believe in less government. Our present council is
top-heavy with staff and too costly to run. A new broom is needed.
To deliver on its public-good goals, the Auckland City Council should be
run as an efficient business. Everyone in it must be accountable for how
they spend ratepayers' money. The council's relationship with the public
must be open and honest.

We can get the basics right by
· Making the city safe for all its citizens
· Investing in our infrastructure
· Providing efficient services
· Protecting and enhancing the environment
· Stopping the squandering of rate payers' money
· Cleaning up our streets, our parks and our beaches
· Showing zero tolerance of graffiti and vandalism
· Treating ratepayers with respect and consideration
I have been in business in this city for a long time and have employed a
lot of people. I have served on the Birkenhead Borough Council, the
Auckland Regional Authority and spent 18 years in Parliament. I was the
Minister of Police, Tourism, Sport and Local Government.

In the October elections you can make a difference. Give me your vote
and give this city the leadership it deserves.

Together we can move Auckland forward.

Yours Sincerely
John Banks
Candidate for Mayor
