What are you doing going back to NZ, Sarah? Have you taken a vow of poverty? Have just been through NZ and after two weeks of 'you know', 'eh?' and 'mate' I couldn't wait to get out of the place. We were also robbed in Auckland. Made the mistake of going out after night-fall. The South Island wasn't too bad though. There are good people down there. In the US now. Met up with one or two friends who are stuck in NZ and have taken a 30% hit in Auckland property values in the last 18 months (in USD terms). I got my money out luckily. It was all so depressing really. When ag. commodity prices turn NZ is down the gurgler even more. Some of the informed are admitting privately that the country is stuffed but you won't hear that publicly. Have to keep the plebs' spirits up. If you do go back I recommend that you take out Australian medical insurance. This is because the medical standards and access are so poor in NZ (according to my sources). If you are in an accident it is important that you get air-lifted to Sydney (proper doctors) if you need an operation. We had a special clause in our travel insurance that if we were injured in NZ we would be flown to Sydney gratis. Also, don't do a degree in NZ as they are starting not to accept them overseas. I turned down a couple of Kiwis in London for jobs because I no longer trust NZ's tertiary system. Perhaps you have non-economic reasons to return so good luck to you and take care. Sharechatters, I know my picks have been poor over the last year but I checked out a company while I was in NZ called Cabletalk. I liked it. No promises but it is a good solid tech on a low PE (forecast). Selling spades instead of digging for gold type. Have a look at it. All the best and be stout of heart in the face of your economic and social difficulties. I would also suggest that you eject the feminist clique currently running your country at the next election because they are not helping. Alternatively, you could do what people in Capetown are doing. That is partying like there is no tomorrow. Because in both countries there really isn't.
