[sharechat] Moving Averages

Mike,
Firstly, I have never done very well at day-trading, and do not attempt
it any more, so my experience here may not count for much!
I did not find moving averages to be helpful at all. If you make the period
long enough to avoid being prematurely flicked out of profitable trades, then
it is too slow to give timely sell signals. In day-trading, where speed of
action is all, they were just too slow. Japanese Candlesticks worked better,
you can chose a charting period to suit the stock. (eg 1, 5, 15 minutes, etc)
Generally, I never use a set figure for any of my trading system parameters,
preferring to vary them according to the volatility and other characteristics
of the stock I am trading. In other words, even if I were to use moving
averages, I would never use the same value for all stocks.
                        Phaedrus.
