So the deadlock has been broken in the quest to control Montana with the
massive international liquor and fast food group Allied Domecq offering
$4.40 per share.

Certainly an excellent offer for Montana shareholders - congratulations to
all holders.

On a different note though, it will be sad to see Montana delisted (provided
the takeover is successful, of course - Lion Nathan still hold the wildcard
on this one, but with the offer almost double what they paid for their MON
shares, I'd be surprised if they refused it).

Montana's an excellent company with strong growth prospects, and it gave
some much-needed diversity to the NZSE.    Let's hope that some of these
smaller wine companies can grow well, and fill the gap left by Montana in
the near future.
