[sharechat] TEL loses DoCoMo support for C&W Optus Mobile Bid?
Interesting report in The Australian this morning which says that Telecom NZ
is "in the lurch" over its bid for Cable & Wireless Optus' assets after its
supposed partner, NTT DoCoMo, pulled out of the race.
Have a read of the article here:
http://finance.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,1594427%255E462,00.html
The article also says that "Sources close to Telecom NZ said it was prepared
to 'go alone'." It certainly would be surprising if Telecom could raise the
cash necessary by itself for the bid.
Maybe Telecom will release a statement that clarifies their position but,
considering that it took a couple of months for them to even confirm media
speculation that they were interested in C&W Optus, I doubt they will.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the world, Nokia reported that it would not meet
analysts expectations for handheld sales, prompting a sell-off in many
telco-related stocks across Europe.
It will be interesting to see how Telecom fares in the today's market....
Best Regards
