[sharechat] broker picks and iguana
happy new year chatters, and thank you for the thoughtful holiday reading.
i've been looking at the broker picks for 2001, and thought i'd check out
how the chosen have performed over the last two years as per the iguana
lists posted on 27 and 29 december.
what an unnerving experience! my printer dies of indigestion or something
after six pages (about 160 companies) and this is insufficient to even
cover some of the potential stars (?).
AIRVA and FLB have not been in the top 160 performers in either of the last
two years. AIRVB sneaked in at 159th last year.
SKY went from 98th in '99 to 124th last year; WHS went from 57th in '99 to
24th last year; and SKC from 112th to 47th -- several steps in the right
direction.
CEN slid from 140th to 160th.
and that's the last of the picks chosen by two or more brokers for 2001
that have been in the top 160 performers in both of the last two years ...
a couple of other things i noticed from the iguana lists: 27 companies
performed better than 100% in 1999; only five did better than 100% last
year.
furthermore, 167 companies returned some sort of profit in 1999, while only
105 companies did better than 0.0% gross difference last year.
i wonder if there would be any difference if a july-to-june year were
examined -- and no, i'm not volunteering!
my own portfolio ended the year about 13% down, so i was (prematurely)
delighted to see so many of them among the broker picks, but now i'm
beginning to have severe doubts, and funding overseas travel this year
seems just a tad pipe-dreamish. dream on.
regards, jefley
