I have been keeping an eye on a new house being build that only uses timber in the  roof trusses. All other framing is concrete poured into preformed polystyrene frames which together with p/s inserts between the framing that apparently gives at least twice the heat retention of bats.
Although it may be a little more expensive the pay back is apparently quickly retrieved through major heating savings.
Having built several houses in the past my main interest was that the system eliminate shrinkage/movement/squeaks that is common with timber frame homes.
A house built in this way would reduce the timber useage by about 2/3.

That will add up to a lot of trees over time.
