[sharechat] ASX Report
The recently released report of the ASX for the 1999/2000 year discloses a
record level of equities traded with the daily average increasing by 68%
with a new daily record of 101,428 trades.
A record number of retail investors is said to be partially responsible for
the increase. The level of private investment is stated to total 53.7%
of adults with 40% in direct investment.
So the OZ market is booming, whilst our own market languishes. I think
there is little doubt that until the time comes when the two exchanges
amalgamate we have little to look forward to.
The merger has been muted for some time (18 months) and it must happen the
question is when ?
IMO it won't happen until the ASX have sorted out their main partners in
the future global tie-ups and there are several theories on this, not the
least being the importance of the growing SSX
For NZ to be part of a global exchange would be advantageous in numerous
ways and could be a vital factor in future economic recovery. We must just
hope the negotiations speed up.
