I thought that the foolish four took the Dow Jones 30, ranked them by descending dividend, took the top ten and then ranked by ascending price. The lowest priced stock was ignored, you took 2 times the number two and one lot of numbers three, four and five in the ascending price list. Assuming that you were to invest $10K in the foolish four, you took $4K of the number 2 ranked stock and then $2K in each for the numbers 3, 4 and 5 stocks. Hold for one year, carry out the same analysis and reconfigure the list based on the criteria (buy/sell accordingly). For the NZSE40 (not sure if this is the best comparison to the DJIA30) as at 08/09/00. Company Yield% Price Purchased Shares STEEL & TUBE STU 13.1 148 2700 NATGASHLDG NCH 9.2 155 1296 FLETCHER FLB 9.0 232 831 CONTACT CEN 9.3 255 772 Dropped number one was KIP (11.4%, 92c). Just started looking at this so all IMHO. Was wondering if the assumptions for NZ were correct. Has anyone here back tested or used this theory in the NZ market (as I would be keen to hear of any results)? Failing this could anyone suggest an easy source of dividend yields say for the September month over the last 5-10 years? Thanks in advance.
