[sharechat] TELECOM

Interesting to see Franklin Resources of California have increased their
interest in TEL from 6.04% to 7.09%. This is good news amidst the
overseas sell down discussion prominant at the moment.

The expense of rolling out infrastructure in NZ is exorbitantly high. We
are a long, hilly and mountainous country. TEL has got all that handled
already. Sure there is a threat from the likes of TLS/Saturn and
Vodafone but the rest will be eternal bit players fighting over scraps.

The CBA deal and recent procurement announcements all point to some very
calculated work being done at TEL to ensure it is a major Australasian
player.

I am punting on the near announcement of an Asian link and maybe direct
investment in TEL itself. With shareprice and currency demise the time
for a cornerstone industry stakeholder is now.
