[sharechat] More on ethical investing - TRH
Sorry folks - but the messages seem to have got mixed up somewhere along the
way. This is what I meant to send earlier - not all that ADV stuff I had pasted
onto a draft to read at a later date.
Ethical investing seemed to be yesterday's topic. Something that investors (and
the companies they invest in) will need to be more aware of in future. Besides
those who choose not to invest in a particular company for whatever reason
there will be some who do so to get their views across and apply pressure to
the companies they are dissatisfied with - Australian mining companies have had
minority activist shareholder protests at meetings.
I wonder whether investors get emotionally involved in the companies they
invest in (do they think they own a small part?) - or is just making money the
reason for the investment.
I think it is the latter.
Besides testing things on monkeys consider Trans Rail.
How many TRH shareholders feel remorse when one of Trans Rail's employeees is
killed. Part of the reason for these incidents being cost saving measures
(according to the recent inquiry) - for the benefit of shareholders!
Interesting thought!
However we do have a personal choice where we invest. Using the term invest
does suggest that money and wealth creation is the main driver.
Have a good weekend
Peter
