[sharechat] ITC & Deepvideo

From: gwilym@seventynine.net

The Deepvideo people made it onto Slashdot.org, one of the most used and powerful geek news media sites (the Deepvideo site couldn't handle the visitor load generated) last night. It attracted a lot of comments from industry insiders including...

"I, of course, got one of these to evaluate. It's a piece of crap. Absolute crap. Sure, 800X600 sounds "decent" but what they don't tell you is that it has an interlace refresh frequency of 54 Hz. Big deal, you say. Well, it IS a BIG FRIGGIN DEAL when every lightbulb in the house pops all at once! Boy was my wife pissed. I sent it back. You'll never see one of MY games on this hunk of junk. "

It seems that it may be too late to market with the recent invention and development of retina scanning displays and it only offering "layered" as opposed to 3D viewing. Coupled with the sheer amount of capital necessary to take a major piece of hardware to market and profit, Deepvideo doesn't look that exciting.

Shame,

Gwilym

Deep Video Imaging

Traditional so-called 3D display devices have always had problems with convergence (combination of left and right eye images), motion parallax (the ability to peer around corners) and limited view range.

Deep Video Imaging provides a full color image with a true depth of field which can be viewed by many, simultaneously, without the need for special glasses or head tracing devices.

Commercial Applications
DVI has broad application for television, billboards, game systems, training simulations, and anywhere display devices are currently in use.

ITC has sex appeal, so please continue posting. Here is the latest announcement:

ASSET: ITC: IT CAPITAL TEAMS UP WITH STEPHEN TINDALL IN DEEP VIDEO IMAGING VEN

IT Capital has secured a major stake in a revolutionary screen-based
technology company to partner Stephen Tindall in taking what is recognised as
a brilliant piece of Kiwi Innovation to the world. Under the terms agreed
this week, IT Capital will join Tindall Family Holdings, a private investment
company owned by Mr Tindall, as major investors in DVI holding 80% between
them. The remaining 20% will be held by the founding shareholders, including
the DVI General Manager, Gabriel Engel. Mr Engel said "rising demand for
multi media in computing provides an opportunity for DVI to dominate markets
which up until now have been constrained by two-dimensional flat screen
technology or more cumbersome systems requiring glasses or positional
constraints.". "IT Capital considers the approach taken by DVI and Mr Engel,
who is the architect of DVI technology, to be unique in the world with sever
significant patents uncontested," said Mr Phillips who acted as a DVI Board
Director on behalf of Mr Tindall over the past year.

Jeepers, I must be bored, posting re ITC.
Am I the only one who thinks that watching a sporting event in virtual reality instead of proper video coverage is strictly for the nerds, and will even then have limited appeal ? Even Americans have their limits don't they ?
Personally, if money burning a hole in my pocket was an issue, homegrown SPE has far more appeal.
