[sharechat] Direct Commercial Property investment vs property shares
I have a friend who has been recently looking at commercial property in
the $400,000 mark. He has a couple of children and wants to put the
money into property for them (a trust set up for when they may want to
go to university etc). He has been shown numerous properties all of
which have not been suitable (too short a leases, poor tenants, shoddy
buildings, poor returns etc).
We have now come to the conclusion that maybe investing in a listed
property company is the best idea. Does anybody have any
recommendations as to what companies to invest in with their returns and
reasons why.
Keep in mind the tax implications of owning the property ie depreciation
and claimable expenses vs the return from a listed company.
Your help in this matter is appreciated.
