Selling CD's over the net is so 1999.... Check out www.napster.com This is a little program (600k) that allows people to share their MP3 collections with each other easily. I just downloaded the program and did a search on a band called "flaming lips" (an obscure english band) 5 other people who were online at the same time had collections containing the music of the flaming lips... Within 60 minutes I could of downloaded their most recent album...FOR FREE Lets consider my alternatives - Order the CD over the Net and wait 7 days for it to turn up - Go into my local cd shop and receive strange looks when i ask for a CD by a band called the "flaming lips" So while Estar maybe one steep ahead of the traditional bricks and mortar CD shop, the idea of selling CD's over the net has been misconceived. Estar is a company attempting to promote the virtues of technology and has been outdone by technology itself...Even if they move into "selling" mp3's over the net (as many online music retailers are starting to do) their is no way they could compete against 10'000's of collage kids offering their vast MP3 collections for free. My pick - Estar will be washed up within 2 years of listing and will become the next shelf company for the next "new new thing" in 2002 Cheers Adam btw : If you are interested in reading more about napster check out this very good article - http://www.salon.com/tech/col/rose/2000/02/04/napster_swap/index.html At 09:34 AM 4/1/00 +0000, you wrote: >Don't know where this thread started but do remember reading yesterday that >one US analyst has doubted the future viability of CDNOW, the online Cd >site (www.cdnow.com) in USA.
