Re: [sharechat] quo vadis Telecom?
Margie, the other 2 mentioned were OneTel and Orange. The
Australian Financial Review had an article on 16 Feb on AAPT
which gave rise to its meteoric share price take-off and has had
a number of other AAPT articles since, all with good news. Unfortunately
not everything that is in the hard copy appears in the electronic web-site
AFR version as I found when I tried to get e copies of some of it. Hey ho,
back to the old fashioned photo copier in the Library.
There are of course the other big players Telstra, Optus and Vodaphone,
(AAPT is number 3 in Oz) but AFR pointed out that the Oz Federal Government
in trying to encourage competition had in effect sold certain very
desirable
CDMA bands to AAPT because of this. AAPT is concentrating on everything
outside the Sydney and Melbourne urban areas and I note that progressively
in
the AFR articles the estimates of AAPT's target have been raised to the 11
million I mentioned.
And another interesting thing is that the existing penetration rates of
this 11 million are
much smaller than the Sydney + Melbourne UA's whcih also adds to the
potential.
When, oh when is Telecom/AAPT going to start floats? They will need the
cash....
I guess its the sort of thing where apparently nothing happens for months
and then suddenly Bang!
cheers,
Hugh
