[sharechat] What's happening with FORCE?
Can anyone shed any light on the happenings with Force today which went up
12.1% to 0.65 followed by the company issuing a statement to shareholders not
to sell as it was entering into a merger?
I was under the impression that the merger (if it is the same one) began last
August when Force, Village Cinemas & Hoyts announced that they were merging
their operations – albeit in defiance of the Commerce Commision who was then
intending to challenge the decision in the High Court to stop the group from
having control of some 75% of the market.
Has the Commerce Commission given up the battle, or has the High Court made a
decision to let the merger go ahead? I can’t see either happening as it was
only eight years ago that the Commerce Commission denied Hoyts approval (in a
decision later upheld by the High Court) to take over the Pacer Kerridge group.
Considering the new coalition government’s averseness to monopolies too, I find
today’s events quite intriguing.
Does anyone have any information?
