I agree with you Harley -- I'm also very cynical of some of the IT companies on the NZSE. But let's not discount this sector -- the AOL/Time Warner merger has proved that the Internet is not merely a fad or passing phenomena -- it's here to stay and it will change the way we live and interact (sooner for some, later for others...: ) If people are looking at buying into some of the IT co's, have a close look at the products they offer and the services they say they'll provide. Even within the ever changing world of technology it's possible to differentiate the good plans from the bad. BCH and ADV spring to mind as two co's that aren't going away in a hurry (check out this story in the Press this morning, BCH has been named Asia's best value creator by the Asian Wall Street Journal. The honours don't come much greater than that...) http://www.press.co.nz/2000/02/000113b07.htm The other co with a "proven track record" is ITC. Venture Capital and multimedia companies (referring to their acquisition of Terabyte Interactive here) will be with us for a very long time! Thus, these are my three top IT performers of 2000. BCH may however turn people off because of the high share price (perhaps another stock split is in order...). Best Regards, Benjamin Dutton (Disclosure: Hold stock in ITC, not in ADV or BCH) ----- Original Message ----- From: Harley D Betts <BettsH@landcare.cri.nz> To: <sharechat@sharechat.co.nz> Sent: Thursday, January 13, 2000 12:06 PM Subject: Re: [sharechat] local performance -Reply > My picks for the greatest (potential) return are 8, 15, 23, 31, 35, 40. > Keep an eye on TV2 on Sat night for the results. > > Seriously though, I'm a bit cynical of IT hopefuls with no proven track > record which seem to be the centre of this new "pass the buck" mania > we've seen emerge over the last few months, but that's just my > unedukated opinion! > > My picks for the first half: NOGOB (my only 'spec' but I believe it is well > worth a look, see recent announcements), TAY (solid business, look out > for Spotless making a takeover offer), PDL (benefitting from stronger NZ > economy) > > Admittedly some of the IT hopefuls will probably outperform in the short > term but where is their proven track record and will they all still be here > in a year's time?
