Scrip is broker jargon for a share holding in the case of equity securities.

In this case it just means chasing stock.

Can anyone shed any light on scrip. I am new and naive in the market and the

following quotes from The Herald on line use the concept of scrip which I 
don't understand. Thanks

"Ian Waddell, an institutional dealer at Ord Minnett Securities in 
Wellington, said most of the buying in Telecom was probably by overseas 
investors. Elsewhere in the market it was a combination of local and 
overseas investors chasing scrip."

"INL shares jumped 35c to close on their highs at 800 with a shortage of 
scrip, he said."
