The appliance maker has appointed Japanese dishwasher manufacturer Harman Pro as the distributor for DishDrawer, which will be marketed there under the F & P brand.
FPA managing director, John Bongard, says Harman has a well-established distribution network, focussing on the commercial kitchen builders and specifiers.
He says the distributor is ideally suited for the product's entry into a very competitive market, and the launch will further strengthen FPA's international export position.
"With our long-standing chest freezer and more recent refrigerator OEM business in Japan, this new DishDrawer business should see us selling over 20,000 appliances under Fisher & Paykel and various OEM brands in the Japanese market this year."
Harman Pro president, Mr Nisbatat, says the F&P DishDrawer ideally complements the company's existing dishwasher product line.
"Its unique benefits will enable us to position DishDrawer at the top end of a fast growing Japanese dishwasher market."
Mr Nisbatat says dishwashers currently have a very low in-home penetration rate in Japan, primarily due to the lack of space for traditional dishwashers in small Japanese houses.
However he says DishDrawer's unique installation options, particularly its single drawer format, will provide new sales opportunities.
