Forestry workers in the central North Island have been reassured their jobs are safe, under a restructuring revealed by Fletcher Challenge Forests.

The company confirmed on Friday it was in discussion with the receivers of the Central North Island Forest Partnership (CNI) over a new management structure.

Investor relations manager Mark Harris said he believed jobs would be secure.

The CNI receivers wanted to set up a new management team, which would oversee operations.

This would leave harvesting and forestry work to continue as normal, with some work being carried out by Fletcher Forests and other companies taking on other contracts.

"I don't think one should see it in terms of job impact...it's still early days," Mr Harris said.

"Forests will continue to be managed and harvested so there should be little impact at (forestry workers') level."

However, he said he believed the proposal would not create new jobs.

With a number of issues to work through, the proposal would not be finalised until next year, Mr Harris said.

Meanwhile Fletcher Forests said that the consolidation of its ordinary and preference shares had taken place on Friday.
