The company says the initial agreement, worth more than $150,000, covers installation of its dental software at two pilot sites
SOE says its agent in Kuwait which negotiated the deal, Advanced Technology Company (ATC), has a close involvement with the Kuwaiti government in respect of dental and general health services. The agent is currently involved in building a new hospital for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, which will include 150 dental surgeries.
Chief Executive of Software of Excellence, Paul Weatherly, says the pilot sites are an exciting public health opportunity for the company.
"If the pilots result in our Exact software being fully adopted by the Ministry of Health in Kuwait, it will provide us with a showcase for our expertise in extracting public health benefits through the effective use of electronic patient records.
"This opportunity builds on our work in the school dentistry area, both in New Zealand and in South Australia, and also our installations in teaching hospitals such as in Adelaide and Perth."
Mr Weatherly says the Kuwaiti deal also helps to build on the company's Middle East presence, where it has already sold software to a hospital Saudi Arabia and to several private dental practices in Dubai.
Earlier this month SOE announced that its profits for the just completed March 31 year would be around break-even on a turnover of some $13 million, a lower than expected result due to the timing of the signing of some major contracts.
However the company says management is still negotiating in North America, Australia, Asia and Europe to conclude a number of significant contracts for the use of the company's software by large dental groupings in the education, public health and corporate areas of dentistry.
