Briscoe Group Q2 figures up 17.2 percent

The cash register continues to ring for Briscoe Group, which has reported second quarter sales up 17.2 percent on the previous year.

The homeware and sporting goods group has announced sales of $65.4 million for the three months to July 31, compared with $55.8 million for the same quarter last year.

Gross margins for the second quarter were also ahead -- Briscoes Homeware sales increased 20.3 percent to $48.5 million and Rebel Sport sales rose 9.1 percent to $16.9 million.

The July quarter sales figure takes unaudited group sales for the first half of its fiscal year to $128.1 million, a rise of 14.1 percent over the $112.2 million reported last year.

Briscoes Homeware increased sales 16.5 percent during this period, and Rebel Sport 8.7 percent.

The group expects to open two new Rebel Sport stores in Hastings and Napier next year.

It will announce its half-year result by September 6.
