A New Zealander, 42-year-old David Ritchie, will take over the company's top position at the start of October, filling a post left vacant since January.
Mr Ritchie has worked with Shell Oil for the past 21 years in New Zealand, Malaysia, the UK and Australian.
Chairman, Norman Geary, says the board is delighted to secure the services of someone with very broadly based skills and a record of major achievements in Shell.
He says Mr Ritchie is a demonstrably successful leader with both a strategic approach and a willingness to become involved in a hands on manner if necessary.
"He has sound and extensive international experience in logistics, sales and marketing and e-business and is well experienced in change management."
Mr Ritchie says the Owens Group is a growing player in the logistics business with a great reputation and significant potential for further development.
