Listed dairy entrepreneur New Image Group says it is building a spray drying plant for infant formula at Paerata, south of Auckland, to help meet global demand for more nutritional milk.
New Image executive chairman Graeme Clegg said the plant would also offer further potential to produce high-quality "bioactives" extracted from milk and pharmaceutical-grade ingredients, such colostrum.
Construction of the plant is expected to be finished by July.
"We are receiving many requests from customers in Asia, especially in China" Clegg said.
