The owner of the Copthorne Hotel on Durham Street in Christchurch has confirmed that the hotel is to be pulled down.

The hotel was damaged in the earthquake on February 22 and last week it was reported to be among buildings in the central city to have been given a 10-day ultimatum to present a demolition plan.

Owner Millennium & Copthorne Hotels New Zealand Ltd said in a statement to NZX today that the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority has determined that demolition of the hotel should occur as soon as possible.
