Mark Tume will rejoin Ngāi Tahu Holdings board this month after almost nine years and will take over the chair later this year, putting him at the helm of two iwi corporate entities.
Tume will become a director on Feb. 26 and will take over the role from August 1, with the appointment as chair lasting three years. He will work with Trevor Burt until he finishes his third term as chair on July 31 to ensure a smooth transition of leadership, Ngāi Tahu Holdings said. The iwi's corporate entity manages $1.3 billion of assets.
"We are thrilled to have someone of Mark’s calibre and experience leading the Ngāi Tahu Holdings board in the next phase of our tribal journey", said Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu kaiwhakahaere (chair) Lisa Tumahai. "Mark is a highly respected director whose governance and professional experience closely align with the values and inter-generational vision of Ngāi Tahu."
Tume was previously a Ngāi Tahu Holdings director between 2005 and 2009 and currently chairs of Infratil. He was a director of New Zealand Oil and Gas until last year, and is currently a director of New Zealand Refining and chair of Te Atiawa Iwi Holdings LP. He has been on the board of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund, and Transpower.
"I am humbled by the opportunity to return to Ngāi Tahu Holdings Corporation at this time," Tume said. "It’s an honour to be able to serve Ngāi Tahu whānau again and I’m looking forward to working with the teams at Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu and Ngāi Tahu Holdings."
