Smith resigns all ministerial portfolios

Wednesday 21st March 2012

Text too small?

Embattled Local Government Minister Nick Smith has resigned all of his ministerial portfolios after coming under increasing pressure over his advocacy of an ACC claimant.

Smith made a personal statement to the House where he tendered his resignation, which Prime Minister John Key. He faced more questioning over his use of a ministerial letterhead in support of Bronwyn Pullar, a National Party activist who inadvertently received private ACC details of other claimants. Smith was ACC Minister at the time of his intervention.

Opposition parties have been calling for his resignation after the letter was made public.
