Westpac is to hold forums across the country to try to find out what businesses need to be able to grow.

Local business people and community leaders would be invited to the meetings being held in cities and provincial centres, under a programme called Grow New Zealand, Westpac said today.

The emphasis would be on hearing first hand what business needed and then looking at how the bank could help viably and practically Westpac New Zealand chief executive George Frazis said.

No need for Westpac to hold forums throughout the country-the answer simply is make available, easy to access business term loans and overdrafts, then businesses will be able to grow.

It's not rocket science - get some local and regional managers, like it was in the old days, who have some good commonsense, business nous and can read financials, together with a reasonable level of lending authority - then people will invest and things will move. Also don't turn the tap off if business goes the other way in the short term - that's what happens in business.
