US markets closed higher on Tuesday, regaining some ground after four sessions of declines, as investors fretted about a wide range of factors from holiday shopping and current-quarter earnings to recession fears and the Bank of Japan's (BoJ) Surprise tweak of its monetary policy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.32%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.14% and 0.01% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.13%), the Dax 30 (-0.42), CAC 40 (-0.35%) and the STOXX (-0.23%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-2.46%), HSI (-1.33%) and the Shanghai Composite (-1.07%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.69%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.268%. Oil was down to $76.02 per barrel, up 1.10%. The gold price was at US$1826.90 per ounce, up 1.62%.
