US markets closed lower on Wednesday after data showing a moderate increase in consumer prices in August cemented expectations that the Federal Reserve will leave interest rates unchanged in September. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.20%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.12% and 0.29% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.02%), the Dax 30 (-0.39%), CAC 40 (-0.42%) and the STOXX (-0.44%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.21%), HSI (-0.09%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.45%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.254%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.971%. Oil was down to $88.81 per barrel, down 0.03%. The gold price was at US$1931.10 per ounce, down 0.21%.
