Telecom, the largest company on the NZX 50, named Chris Quin as chief executive of its retail unit, effective Oct. 1.

Quin is currently CEO of Telecom's IT service provider, Gen-i Australasia, and has been a member of the telecommunications company's leadership team for four years. Gen-i's general manager of operations, marketing and channel management, Jo Allison, has been appointed as acting chief executive.

"Telecom Retail and its valued SME and consumer customers are a key strategic focus for our business," Simon Moutter, CEO of Telecom, said in a statement. "We have a sound plan in place for Retail to fight hard for market share in broadband and mobile along with a big drive to lift the efficiency of the operation and better meet customer needs."

Quin has previously worked in Telecom's finance, call centre management and sale and management of service delivery departments. He's also sat on the boards of ICE HOUSE, NZICT and the New Centre for Social Innovation.

Shares in Telecom last traded at $2.31 and have gained 20 percent this year.
