Mr Walker's departure follows a restructuring at AMP Henderson Global, which is the country's largest fund manager with over $10 billion under management.
He has been with the firm for seven years.
The fund manager says its new structure integrates the previously separate fixed interest, equity and investment strategy teams into a single investment operations group.
Chief investment officer, Chris Wozniak, says the change is consistent with the worldwide Henderson Global Investors operational model.
"By removing the traditional boundaries between asset classes and investment strategy, we have been able to form a single consolidated investment team with a clear focus on providing excellent returns to investors," Mr Wozniak says.
All New Zealand assets will continue to be managed in New Zealand.
